missing britain

this is actualy a post I wrote in summer but simply forgot to publish, so I hereby catch up:

being huge fans of many things british, my mister and I decided to spend our holiday traveling GB this summer.
mentioning summer....one should never discuss the english weather, but to give you an impression: we left vienna with 38°C and arrived in London with the not so delightful 18°C. but it got worse when we traveled up north with the lowest temperature about 12°C.brrrrrrrr....

besides that we just loved it! All those pretty villages and landscapes and sheep!

When I watch english tv shows such as midsomer murders (which I do a lot) you can see all those pretty cottages and pubs. I get quiet excited about them, but still I thought: oh well, they probably just pick out the nice buildings and the rest of the villages are an eye soure. BUT that's not true. we drove through so many idylic little villages that made one feel like in a set designers wildest dreams. wonderful. *sigh*
besides being a bloody tourist (first picture) we really got into the habit of having afternoon tea. To keep this habit up back home I got myself everything for a DIY cakestand and even looked up a scones and clotted cream recipe. only problem: me and baking ain't friends.

sheep on a graveyard. how awesome is this?!

We traveled via Cambride to Yorkshire and then via Northumberland to Scotland.
It was amazing to drive through the moor, the wild landscape and the sky full of dark clouds that from time to time give place to the sun and finally you pass over a hill and there it is: the sea.
I literally had tears in my eyes. it was so beautiful.

The picture below is the Whitby seaside,
somewhere here Bram Stoker's Dracula arrived with his ship.

the first night in Scotland and we spent it drinking whisky with the hotel staff until sunrise.
here my feet on tartan. :)
One can easily spend a lifetime traveling Britain. It's amazing. Next time I'd love to see the lake district and Wales and I definitly need to go back to Scotland.

oh bittersweet wanderlust.

escape to the chives

it's incredibly hot in vienna and I'm longing for thunderstorms. viennese people tend to become rather zombielike in the heat, but I guess they welcome every opportunity to show their inner self.
Anyway,I love the heat and I love the 150 years old building with super thick walls where I live and recover from the sticky humidity.
but the green roofterrace at my mister's flat is even nicer. It's not exactly an official terrace, you have to climb trough a window to get there, but somehow chives conquered the whole roof and you just want to roll yourself in sourcream to match your surroundings.

the entrance to chive land with my mister about to join me

but I already have to take back what I said about longing for thunderstorms. Tomorrow Beirut is performing at an open air venue. I looooove Beirut!!! so please dear weather don't mess this up. thanks.

Melanocetus johnsoni

Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim West,
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest.
There shrines and palaces and towers
(Time-eaten towers that tremble not!)
Resemble nothing that is ours.

usually i'm not a big fan of most of the lets-put-a-song-over-some-footage - homemade-musicvideos, but this does fit very well, i think. i just looove holly golithly.

outfitpost impossible

it's been a while now that i try to take an admiration shot of my most favorite skirt. it's handmade by the black pinafore and i totally adore it.
BUT it seems my faith not to be able to take a proper picture of me wearing it. here are some samples for you:

too dark plus i'm sweaty and redfaced from dancing
back home; looking mental

a pony crossed my way

Dear Debora. i hope i will once be able to take a picture of this glorious garment you made.
